Great Glen Way Ranger course is on track to help the navigationally challenged at Invergarry.

People who get lost in their local supermarket or think that gaiters are man-eating animals are being invited by the Great Glen Way Rangers to expand their horizons by joining them on a course called “Navigation for Numpties”.

During the six part course the Rangers will to introduce participants to the theory and practice of navigating in the outdoors. Four evening workshops will be held at the Glengarry Hall in Invergarry and the course will finish with an afternoon of orienteering practice in beautiful woodland near Fort Augustus, followed by a day’s hill walking up the challenging but scenic Meall Dubh. The practical weekend sessions run from September to October 2011.

Lynda Dodd, Countryside and Long Distance Route Development Officer said: “If you love the idea of the great outdoors but reckon that a Corbett is a wee comedian off the telly, and always rely on others to read maps then we are here to help you.

“We’ll help you lose any fear of a compass, unravel the mysteries of maps and open up new possibilities to enjoy the countryside.”

The evening Navigation for Numpties workshops will run on 21 and 28 September, 5 and 12 October from 7 - 9pm; and the orienteering afternoon will be on 22 October from 1 - 3:30pm; with the hill walk on 29 October from 8.30am - 4.30pm.

Places are limited on this popular event, so booking is essential. For more information, contact the Great Glen Way Rangers on tel: 01320 366633, e-mail the Rangers at greatglenway@highland.gov.uk or visit their website at: www.greatglenway.com.
