Portree is first venue for Council Election briefing sessions

Skye will host the first in a series of six Highland-wide briefing sessions for prospective candidates at The Highland Council elections on 3 May 2012.
The venue is The Highland Council Chamber, Tigh na Sgire, Portree on Tuesday 28 February, starting at noon.

Topics to be covered by the Returning Officer, Alistair Dodds, at the awareness sessions for candidates and their agents will be the nomination procedure, the election timetable, the issuing of poll cards, postal ballot packs, candidate’s spending limits, and what is involved in being a councillor.

The election will be called on Tuesday 13 March and candidates have until 4 pm on Thursday 29 March to lodge their nominations.The election will be called on Tuesday 13 March and candidates have until 4 pm on Thursday 29 March to lodge their nominations.
Polling will take place between 7.00am – 10.00pm on Thursday 3 May.  The count will take place from 9.30am on Friday 4 May at Inverness Leisure, Bught Park, Inverness.
