Opportunities for local contractors to assist with services over the winter

The Highland Council is inviting local contractors to come along to two briefing events to find out how they can help provide services over the winter months from December 2014 until December 2016.  

The opportunity for work over the winter months for the next three seasons includes the treatment of snow and ice on the public road network, standby snow clearing on the public road network, standby snow clearing in school car parks and the treatment of snow and ice on the public road network on the Island of Raasay.  

These activities have been divided into the following six Lots:   

  • Lot 1- Gritting of the road network – South Loch Ness
  • Lot 2 - Gritting of the road network  - South Loch Ness
  • Lot 3 - Standby provision of specialist vehicles for gritting and snow clearing with an operator.
  • Lot 4- Provision of driver only to operate Local Authority supplied gritter vehicle
  • Lot 5 - Standby snow clearing on the public road network, school car parks and other public areas
  • Lot 6 - Provision of labour for manual spreading of salt and hand clearance of snow.  

Any suitable contractors can apply to be included on a Framework Agreement with the Council.  

The briefing sessions take place in Gairloch and Dingwall on Tuesday 26 August.  The morning session runs from 10am-11am at Gairloch Quarry, Gairloch, IV21 2BN and the afternoon session runs at 2.30pm and 4pm at the County Buildings in Dingwall, IV15 9QN.  

Councillor Maxine Smith from The Highland Council’s Resources Committee said: “This is a great opportunity for local contractors who are interested in helping us to provide services over the winter months for the next three seasons. Not only will there be Council staff from Community Services on hand to explain details of the services we are looking for assistance with, but there will also be advice about how people can apply and get involved in the tendering application process.”
