Sudden Death of Inverness Councillor

The Highland Councillor for Lochardil, Inverness, Mrs Margaret MacLennan, has died suddenly aged 74.

Councillor MacLennan, a retired businesswoman, running a family butcher's business in the Market Arcade for many years, was found dead in her home on Friday.

Councillor MacLennan served on the former Inverness District Council between 1992-96 and on The Highland Council since 1996.

Her husband Tommy died last October. She leaves two sons, Tommy and Neil and a daughter, Susan.

Provost William Smith, Chairman of the City of Inverness and Area Committee of The Highland Council, will pay a tribute to Margaret before the start of the Area Committee tomorrow (Monday).

He said: "Margaret was a very hard working and conscientious councillor, who was very close to the community she served. She was a popular member of the Council and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts are with her family at this time."
