Participatory budgeting is coming to the Aird and Loch Ness Ward!  ‘PB’ is a process that lets the local community decide for themselves how money is spent and which community projects are needed in their area.

If you live in the Aird and Loch Ness ward and have an idea about how to make your local area a better place, Your Ward, Your Cash, Your Choice is your chance to put your idea into action. £15,000 from the Ward Discretionary Budget  has been set aside to provide grants from £100 up to £1,500.

The fund is open to any local community, voluntary or non-profit organisations and informal groups that are based in ward 13. Projects put forward can be large or small, add value to existing projects or be something completely new. Whether you want to organise a healthy living project, start a new fitness group, put on a lunch club for older residents – all applications are welcome as long as the project supports local people in Aird and Loch ness and will happen in the next 12 months/

Representatives from the projects that meet the eligibility criteria will be asked to present their ideas to members of the public who will then cast their votes during a special event held on Saturday 18 February at the Craigmonie Centre in Drumnadrochit.

A spokesperson for the organising group said: “This is an exciting opportunity for the people who actually live here to decide directly for ourselves how ward funding is spent locally. With grants available from £100 through to £1500 this will hopefully encourage some new and exciting ideas to benefit our communities.”

Full details and the application forms are now available from the Craigmonie Centre so please visit www.CraigmonieCentre.co.uk or e-mail Craigmoniecc@highlifehighland.com or telephone 01456459224.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 8 February
