Places to go and things to see

Here in the Highlands of Scotland we have some great places to discover and will leave you wanting more and thinking you should have come for longer! You could walk, stroll, run or bike, you could climb a hill or sit with a view – but however you enjoy the countryside, always keep an eye out for what wildlife you might see.

There are great cliff top walks with awesome views, there are bird hides to while away the time, there are woodland paths to wander and visitor centres to captivate you. There are great sandy beaches to walk along and secret rock pools to discover. Be inspired by the big trees in the hidden glens and then there is the lochs….mirror finish, sparkling with diamonds or rough as the sea.

Visitor centres

This Highland council operate a number of visitor centres across the Highlands offering a fascinating insight into the local area and what makes it special.

As well as being visitor attractions these centres provide excellent orientation and advice, enabling visitors to make the very most of the time they have in a particular area.

Durness, Glen Nevis and Seadrift visitor centres also incorporate the local base for our Countryside Ranger Service.

Wildlife information sheets

Here's some sheets we've prepared for general use while you're out and about. These sheets are free to download and will give help you identify some of the flora & fauna you are likely to encounter in the Highlands. Keep in mind, not everything you see will be on the sheets!
