Learning Disability Services

Our services aim to assist adults with learning disabilities to have control over their own lives and the support they receive. We aim to enable people to be more involved in their local communities; living, working and enjoying leisure, recreation and education opportunities. Our aim, in partnership with Housing Services, Education, Culture and Sport Services, NHS Highland and other agencies, including user and carer groups, is for people with learning disabilities to enjoy better health and to be free from bullying and harassment.

Most of us need information, advice, or support at some times in our lives which cannot be provided by family or friends. Social Work Services may be able to help. We can: provide information; assess your needs and your carer’s needs; discuss what help is available locally; provide links to Health, Housing and Education; support and arrange access to other help e.g. support workers; respond to a crisis; and take effective steps to keep people safe.

We aim to act promptly to requests for information and help, and to be as flexible as possible in our response. Wherever possible we aim to provide services locally.

We employ a variety of measures to ensure that users and carers are involved in shaping developments and setting priorities. Users and carers are represented on Local Implemetation Groups. We also engage with user and carer groups on specific issues and key areas of development.
