Scottish Government Training Packs

The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 (the 2000 Act) was one of the first major pieces of legislation passed by The Scottish Parliament. The Act replaces and modernises legislation. It changes the system for safeguarding the welfare, and managing the finances and property of adults (aged 16 or over) who lack the capacity to make some or all decisions for themselves because of mental disorder or inability to communicate by any means. It allows other people to make decisions or take action on behalf of these adults, subject to safeguards.
