Declarations of Interest:
Councillor Finlayson declared a non financial interest in Item 4 on the Agenda as a relative of the applicant’s family and announced that he would be leaving the meeting during consideration of that item of business.
1. Apologies for Absence
Apologies for absence were intimated on behalf of Mr David Flear, Mrs Deirdre Mackay, Mrs Katrina MacNab and Mrs Linda Munro.
2. Confirmation of Minute
There had been circulated for confirmation Minute of Meeting of the Licensing Committee held on 2nd November 2009. The Minute was held as read and was approved.
3. Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 – Applications for Late Hours Catering Licences – Tesco Stores Limited
There had been circulated report (LCC/12/09) dated 18th November 2009 by the Area Solicitor relating to applications lodged by Tesco Stores Limited for late hours catering licences for their stores at Wick Airport, Wick and Millbank Road, Thurso to allow them to trade daily from 11pm to 5am.
It was noted that Lorna Murray, Solicitor, was present to represent Tesco Stores Limited, along with Stuart Cowan, the Manager for the Thurso Store. Mrs Murray addressed the Committee in support of the application.
The Committee, having noted that there were no objections to the applications and that the proposed hours were in line with the Act, agreed to grant both applications.
4. Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 – Application for Late Hours Catering Licence – Curry King, 15 Bridge Street, Wick
There had been circulated report (LCC/13/09) dated 2nd December 2009 by the Area Solicitor relating to an application from Mohammed S Ahmed (Wick Ward) for a late hours catering licence for Curry King, 15 Bridge Street, Wick in light of a letter of observation from the Northern Constabulary.
It was noted that the applicant was present and was represented by John Gunn, Solicitor, Arthur and Carmichel. Mr Gunn addressed Members in support of his client’s application, and explained to them the circumstances relating to the conviction detailed in the Police letter.
The Board, having noted that the Police had no objection to the application, approved the application.
The meeting closed at 11.15am.
