Apologies for absence were intimated on Councillor Roger Saxon and Councillor Graeme M. Smith.
2. Christmas Lights
Councillor Rosie explained to the meeting that community groups had been invited to attend the meeting in order that the Area Committee could ascertain the groups funding requirements for Christmas light displays, and possibly provide funding which may help the organisations obtain additional funding from outside organisations.
Councillor Rosie invited the members of the community groups to make comments. Individual representatives of the organisations advised the Committee of the means by which they had raised funds in their areas, and of their future funding requirements. Many groups expressed disappointment in the procedures involved in obtaining funding from CASE.
After lengthy discussion the Committee agreed that the Area Manager would prepare a report making proposals for contributing funding to the voluntary groups for consideration at a special meeting of the Area Committee to be held on 7th October, 2002. He also undertook to ascertain the current position of CASE in relating to providing funding for community lighting schemes.
