2. Plana Cànan nan Eilean Siar - Western Isles Language Plan

 

Ms Maggie Mackay, who co-ordinated the production of the Western Isles Language Plan will attend the meeting and make a presentation on how agencies in the Western Isles collaborated to produce their local language plan.

 

3. Gaelic in the Home and the Community 

 

There is circulated Report GSC 09/06 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport, which provides an update on progress to date with the recommendations of the Highland Council Gaelic Conference of September 2005.

 

The Committee is invited to:

 

i. note the progress made to date in implementing the recommendations of the Highland Council Gaelic Conference of September 2005; and
ii. consider other ways in which awareness can be raised of the importance of strengthening Gaelic in the home and community.

 

4. Gaelic Teacher Supply 

 

There is circulated Report GSC 10/06 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport, which updates Members on recent developments aimed at increasing the supply of Gaelic speaking teachers and other education staff in the Council.

 

The Committee is invited to consider proposals for submission to Bòrd na Gaidhlig in relation to the Gaelic Teacher Supply project.

 

5. Latha Mòr Na Gàidhlig 

 

There is circulated Report GSC 11/06 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport, which updates Members on plans for a gathering of Gaelic speaking school pupils to be held in Inverness as part of Highland 2007.

 

The Committee is invited to comment on the draft programme for ‘Latha Mòr na Gaidhlig’.

 

6. Gaelic Early Years Service  

 

There is circulated Report GSC 12/06 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport, which informs Members of the Gaelic Pre-school and Childcare Plan, adopted by Committee in September 2004.  The report sets out a number of development priorities for the future within the context of the current review of Early Years Services and the further development of Gaelic childcare and education provision to children and families in Highland.

 

It is recommended that Members:

 

i. give consideration to the current range of provision as detailed in the attached appendix; and

ii. comment on the proposals for developing future provision as outlined above within the context of the review of Early Year’s Services.

 

7. Update Report   

 

There is circulated Report GSC 13/06 by the Gaelic Development Officer informing Members on progress of progress on current issues.

 

Members are invited to comment on the work in progress.
