A meeting of the Gaelic Committee will take place in the Council Chamber, Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness on Thursday 12 January 2012 at 2.00 p.m. or following the meeting of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee whichever is the later.

Members are asked to consider whether they have an interest to declare in relation to any item on the agenda for this meeting. Any Member making a declaration of interest should indicate whether it is a financial or non-financial interest and include some information on the nature of the interest. 3.  Revenue Monitoring – Report to November 2011

 

There is circulated Report No G-1-12 (68kb pdf) dated 4 January 2012 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport setting out the revenue budget monitoring position for the period 1 April 2011 to November 2011.

 

The Committee is invited to note the projected outturn for financial year 2011/12 based on estimates at the end of November 2011.

 

4.  Feedback from the GME Consultation Events to commemorate
     the 25th Anniversary of GME Education by The Highland Council

 

There is circulated Report No G-2-12 (72kb pdf) dated 28 December 2011 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport which provides Members with the full feedback sheets from the six Gaelic Medium Education (GME) Consultation Events to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the provision of GME by The Highland Council.

 

The Committee is invited to:-

 

i.  note the comprehensive feedback from the six 25th Anniversary GME
    Consultation Events;
ii. agree that the outcomes from these events continue to be fed into
    deliberations on the Council’s Draft Gaelic Language Plan 2012-16; and
iii. agree that the information provided be used to inform forward planning on
    GME at local and national levels as appropriate.

 

5.  Partnership Working and Project Delivery with Comunn na
     Gàidhlig Cuach na Cloinne and Sgeama Greis Gnìomhachais

 

There is circulated Report No G-3-12 (34kb pdf) dated 28 December 2011 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport which informs Members of the partnership working with Comunn na Gàidhlig (CnaG) to deliver Cuach na Cloinne, the Scotland-wide Gaelic Schools Football Competition, and Sgeama Greis Gnìomhachais, the Gaelic Student Placement Programme. 

 

Calum Iain Macleod, Development Manager at CnaG, will give a presentation on the projects which are part funded by the Council.

 

The Committee is invited to comment on the presentation and note the progress made regarding the two projects.

 

6.  Gaelic Language Act Implementation Fund (GLAIF)

 

There is circulated Report No G-4-12 (47kb pdf) dated 28 December 2011 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport which informs Members of the progress in implementing the suite of Gaelic Language Act Implementation Fund (GLAIF) projects approved for 2011-12.
The Committee is invited to comment and note the progress made in implementing the suite of GLAIF projects.

 

7.  Report on the Public Consultation for Draft Gaelic Language Plan
     2012-16

 

There is circulated Report No G-5-12 (958kb pdf) dated 11 January 2012 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport informing Members of the input to the Council’s public consultation exercise on the Gaelic Language Plan 2012-16 which concluded on 4 January 2012.  A full Public Consultation report will be published in due course.

 

The Committee is invited to note the responses received to date.

 

8.  Draft Gaelic Language Plan 2012-16

 

There is circulated Report No G-6-12 (45kb pdf) dated  28 December 2011 by the Director of Education, Culture and Sport which provides Members with information on progress in preparing the Council’s second generation Gaelic Language Plan (GLP), since the last Gaelic Committee meeting on 1 December.  The GLP is scheduled to be approved around May 2012.

 

The Committee is invited to:-

 

i.  note progress to date and comment further on the draft Gaelic Language
    Plan 2012-16;
ii. note the forthcoming discussions with Bòrd na Gàidhlig on alignment with
    the NGLP and high level strategic aims; and
iii. agree the updated timetable for submission of the Plan as set out in
    Appendix 1 to the report.
