Council Wards 1996 – 2007

Prior to the introduction of the Muliti-member Wards in 2007, the Highland Council had 80 local Wards, each represented by a Councillor who was elected on the traditional “First Past the Post” (FPP) system.  This voting system means the candidate with the most votes is elected.

A change to Wards were introduced in 2007 and the number of wards in Highland was reduced to 22.  Each ward will have 3 or 4 Councillors, with the total number of Councillors remaining at 80.
