Job Description:

Job Purpose:
 
 To care for and be sensitive to the needs of older people

 who attend the Centre for day care.

 To implement and promote the aims and objectives specific to the client group

 To provide cover, for Day Care Officer on annual leave or sick leave.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:    

Enable clients to maintain contacts in potentially                                      

 isolating situations.

 Enable clients to maintain their personal hygiene and

 appearance.

 Enable clients to access and use toilet facilities.

 Contribute to the management of client continence.

 Enable clients to eat and drink

 Organise stimulating activities for clients

 Contribute to the planning, monitoring and recording

 of service delivery.

 Recognise and adhere to approved safe moving and handling techniques at all times.

 Undertake any training deemed necessary to the post.

Other Duties: 

 The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties appropriate to the level of the post.

 Duties and responsibilities will vary from time to time.

Health & Safety: 

Health & Safety is an integral part of any role within the Highland Council.  As such we would expect that all employees:

• Be familiar with Violent Incident and Accident reporting procedures and comply with them.

• Undertake a continual program of Risk Assessment in relation to their role within Highland Council

• Have an understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace, and familiarise themselves with the Highland Council’s Health & Safety Procedures.

Essential Competencies

Good communicator, including listening skills

Experience of working in a care setting

Demonstrate a clear understanding of the needs of older people

Ability to relate to clients and their carers

Flexible approach

Sensitive to others’ needs and wishes

Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality

Demonstrate an awareness of anti-discriminatory practice

Ability to undertake appropriate training.
