Terms and Conditions

Introduction

Following extensive discussions and negotiations with the trade unions over the last 2 years, a collective agreement has now been reached on the harmonised and non-discriminatory terms and conditions of service for Scottish Joint Council (SJC) employees of the Council (i.e. all employees with the exception of teachers and craft operatives).

The new terms and conditions will be implemented with effect from 1 September 2010 and a Summary of Main Changes and Impact, the Working Hours Calendar (b&w) and frequently asked questions are also included on this web site.

The vast majority of SJC staff will be unaffected by the new conditions of service but this is a very important step for the Council as from 1 September, all Service and Area variations will cease.  The conditions of service have been the subject of an external equality impact assessment and the External Assessor has given a positive report.

As a collective agreement has been achieved, the new terms and conditions of service will automatically form part of staffs’ terms and conditions of employment and will be incorporated into their contracts of employment with effect from 1 September 2010.

The Council has agreed that the move to monthly pay will not take place at this time but will be subject to further discussions with the trade unions.

Any questions about the new terms and conditions should be directed to the employee’s line manager.
