Certain posts with the council (generally where you will have substantial access to children or vulnerable adults)require checks through Disclosure Scotland for any relevant criminal convictions. If you are applying for such a job you must declare all criminal convictions that you have had or any criminal convictions still pending, including those that are ‘spent’ for other purposes under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, 1974. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from obtaining a position.
The application form that you receive will guide you as to what type of convictions you are required to declare but if you have any doubt about the information you are required to provide, please contact Personnel Services recruitment@highland.gov.uk.
Where applicants are asked to complete the Criminal Convictions form it will be held securely and treated in the strictest confidence. If you are appointed, this information will be held in your personal file and should the declaration you have made be untruthful, this may lead to disciplinary action being taken against you.
When disclosure is required please ensure that full details are given to avoid delays.
What is Disclosure Scotland?
Disclosure Scotland is a service designed to enhance public safety by providing potential employers and the voluntary sector with criminal history information on individuals applying for posts. Disclosure Scotland issues certificates - known as Disclosures - which give details of an individual's criminal convictions or state that they have none.
