School Roll Forecasts

The links on this page will take you to Excel spreadsheets giving the school roll forecasts for both secondary and primary schools in Highland. They are arranged so that each primary school is given under the Secondary with which it is associated. Just click on the links below and click on the "disable macros" button when you are prompted.

These forecasts are based on the September 2011 pupil census. New house building can have a significant impact on rolls and the forecasts are based on potential building sites given in our 2010 Housing Land Audit, supplemented by site specific intelligence gained through local studies and discussions with developers.  The housing market remains in an uncertain state and the overall assumption is for relatively low build rates for the next five years folowed by a significant recovery from 2016 onwards, and a return to the build rates we experienced in the years prior to the onset of the credit crunch in 2008.

These are “baseline” forecasts and do not include pupils that might arise from new development sites identified in our 2010 proposed Highland wide local Development Plan. The forecasts for individual schools likely to be affected have comments to indicate where these proposed sites might result in higher rolls than given here.

The forecasts also show the number of pre-school children living in each primary school area, by their nursery year (“N3” and “N4”). In practice some schools do not have nursery units, and parents often find that other nurseries suit their lifestyles better, and the figures are included to help the planning of integrated children’s services.

The capacities of schools were reviewed for the 2010 school year and are “working capacities” which reflect Government guidance on class sizes and the actual age mix of pupils attending the school: they will be updated annually.

The next annual review will be based on the September 2012 pupils census and the results will be available in the late autumn of 2012. In the meantime these 2011 based forecasts will be updated whenever better information becomes available for individual schools.
