Plockton High School Pupil Residence; HM Inspectorate of Education and the Care Commission Report. (25/10/05)
Plockton High School Pupil Residence has received a good report from HM Inspectorate of Education and the Care Commission, who recently visited the residence. The inspection team have stated in their report that overall the care of pupils was good and that ethos and partnership with parents was also good.
In particular, HM Inspectors of Education and the Care Commission deemed that the key strengths of the residence were:
- Friendly and well-mannered pupils.
- The open and welcoming atmosphere.
- Caring and hard-working staff.
Mrs Shona McGuinness, the acting residence manager, stated that she was pleased with the report which reflected the commitment and dedication of all staff, residents and parents.
Main points for action were to:
- Improve the leadership of the residence and approaches to self-evaluation.
- Ensure that pupils are systematically consulted and that their views are taken into account in improving the residence.
- Ensure staff, pupils and parents are clear about their respective roles and responsibilities, for example on the residence code of conduct and the provision of weekend activities.
The Area Education Manager, Laurence Young, was pleased with the good work the staff and acting residence manager were doing and the quality care given to pupils. He stated that the Education Culture and Sports Service would be happy to take on board the action points recommended by HM Inspectorate of Education and the Care Commission.
