HMIe Report on Cannich Bridge Primary School (13/06/06)

In an HMIe report on Cannich Bridge Primary School, a range of strengths were identified, with the school commended for:

  • Warm, supportive and courteous relationships amongst all pupils and adults associated with the school.
  • Close links with parents and the school’s contribution to its community.
  • Staff teamwork and their promotion of pupils’ wider achievements.
  • Exceptionally high quality school meals.
  • The leadership and vision of the acting head teacher.

In a positive report the Inspectors judged that all aspects of the work of the school were areas of strength. No aspects of the work of the school were found to be weak or unsatisfactory.  They recognised the high performance, the strong record of improvement and the very effective leadership of the school.

The Inspectors also made a limited number of recommendations for the school which included continuing to improve attainment in English language and mathematics, ensuring that the learning needs of pupils with additional support needs are more effectively met and continuing to refine arrangements for evaluating the quality of the work of the school.

Commenting on the reports Sylvia Fraser, Acting Headteacher, said: "I am pleased that the report reflects the strong teamwork within the school and the good relationships among pupils, staff, parents and the community. We have already begun to address the issues raised in the report with the continuing support of everyone connected with the school."

Councillor for the Cannich Bridge area, Mrs Helen Carmichael, said: “I am very pleased with the report.  It shows what a good start small country schools with good leadership can provide for children."

The chairperson of the School Board, Mr Kevan Pick, commented: “The children of Cannich Bridge Primary continue to benefit from the dedication and hard work of its staff and from local community support.”

The school has 30 pupils and 15 nursery pupils.
