Flooding Update - archived report (27/10/06)

The Convener of The Highland Council, Councillor Alison Magee, has praised Council staff and partner agencies for their tremendous efforts in responding to the exceptional flooding and gales that have affected the east coast of the Highlands, from Dingwall and the Black Isle to Wick.

She has also offered her sincere sympathies to all those tenants, residents and businesses who have been affected or disrupted by flooding.

She said: “The conditions which have been experienced this week in some parts of the Highlands have been extreme.  It is a real credit to our staff and those of other emergency organisations the way they have worked around the clock to tackle flooding and road closures caused by fallen trees and debris. They all deserve our praise for their commitment.”

Council staff are busy today (Friday) clearing up after the flooding and fallen trees, which have closed or partially closed many roads in the north.

Due to loss of power at the Service Centre, Alness, since 3.30 pm on Thursday, all telephone calls will be diverted to the Council helpline: 0800 838 009.  Unfortunately, this means only a limited service can be provided.  Every attempt has been made to resume normal service as soon as possible.
