Alness group scoops second award (04/06/07)
Following closely on the heels of success at the SCVO National Charities Awards, West Alness Residents Association has scooped another national award for their Westend Community Centre project.
The group attended the Chartered Institute of Housing/Communities Scotland/Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS)/Lovell National ‘Good Practice in Tenant Participation’ Awards in Edinburgh last Thursday (31 May) and was awarded the Runner Up trophy in the Outstanding Achievement category.
One of the judges Ann Marie Stanley, a Tenant Participation Development Co-ordinator with Communities Scotland, said the West Alness Residents Association had impressed the judges by their efforts over many years and their determination to provide a much needed resource within their community.
“Running a community centre is just one of the many things that local tenants and residents groups get involved in. By working together, real improvements are being made to the delivery of services and to peoples lives. This excellent facility will make a big difference to the everyone in the area’ she said.
Another Highland project received a Runner Up award in the Landlord Participation category. The Highland Council Housing and Property Service received the award for their community consultation before and during the successful Community Warden Service in Alness and Invergordon.
The Awards are sponsored by Chartered Institute of Housing/Communities Scotland/Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS)/Lovell Partnerships Ltd.
