Chance To Tour New Drummond School (17/06/08)
There will be an open afternoon and evening for anyone who would like a tour of the new Drummond School, Inverness, on Tuesday 24 June.
The first tour will begin at 3.30pm with a further two tours leaving from the reception area at 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
Head teacher Linda Schubert said: “We wanted to give parents, relatives and the wider community a chance to come along to see the tremendous new facilities. Our pupils are all very excited about moving into the wonderful new school. The specialised facilities have been designed to ensure we can provide and develop high-quality learning and teaching opportunities for all the pupils.”
When the new school term begins in August, 80 pupils and ?? staff will move into the £14 million new school which has been specifically designed to cater for the special needs of the children and to provide a warm and welcoming environment for children from nursery through primary to secondary age.
Facilities include 14 classrooms, a swimming and hydrotherapy pool, library, IT room, home economics room, music and art rooms, sensory rooms, soft play rooms and meeting rooms. Outdoor facilities will feature playing fields, a sensory garden and a dedicated nursery area.
Councillor Bill Fernie, The Highland Council’s Chairman of Education, Culture and Sport, said: “These open sessions are a good way of showing people the wonderful new school which signifies a real investment by the Council into the educational needs and aspirations of young people with additional support needs. I know that there is real excitement in the air with everyone looking forward to moving into the modern, airy and spacious building. I see it becoming very much a flagship facility of which the Highlands can be proud, offering excellent bespoke facilities and a learning environment that is second to none.”
Drummond School is the eighth of the eleven new schools projects to be completed under the Council’s second PPP scheme.
