Moving Forward at Badaguish near Aviemore (10/11/08)
Highland Youth Voice, the elected youth parliament for the Highlands, meets this weekend (14-16 November 2008) at Badaguish Outdoor Centre near Aviemore, when transport will be the focus of discussion.
The conference has been designed in response to requests from Youth Voice members to be given the opportunity to discuss transport issues that affect them, with influential representatives from The Highland Council.
Over the weekend, new Highland Youth Voice members will also be learning the skills they’ll need for the year ahead, with workshops on confidence, presentations and media skills. There will also be “Driving Ambition”, a road safety training workshop with input from the Police, Fire Service and Driving Standards Agency.
There will also be more opportunities than ever before for debate among the members on transport issues they face in their local areas and that directly affect young people. They will be welcomed by the Highland Youth Voice ‘Xec’ committee, the new Highland Youth Convener, Catriona Burns, and representatives from the Transport, Environment and Community Services Committee and Service from The Highland Council. And if that was not enough there will be a Bands’ Night on Saturday with many local young bands.
Highland Youth Voice, is managed by The Highland Council, supported by community planning partners, and gives young people drawn from schools and local youth forums a chance to meet directly with decision makers who are delivering services to young people.
Catriona Burns, The Highland Youth Convener, said: ‘Transport is one of the most important issues for young people in the Highlands. This weekend will be a great opportunity for the members of Highland Youth Voice to put forward their opinions, and discuss the issues with people who can really make a change. This conference will be a lot of work, but should also be a lot of fun too!”
