Resolution reached on water cascading at Inverness canal lock gates (10/12/10)
Joint statement from British Waterways Scotland and The Highland Council.
In the interests of the local residents living near Muirtown Basin in Inverness, British Waterways Scotland has today agreed with The Highland Council to abate the noise created by the cascading of water over the lock gates.
This will be achieved by reverting to opening of the lower sluice gates.
While regulating the water through the lock flight by cascading has been British Waterways Scotland’s preferred way of dispersing excess water safely to date, British Waterways Scotland recognise, and are sympathetic to, the issue of noise from the cascading of water and the impact this has on those living in close proximity to the lock flight.
The new method will be in place from 16 December 2010 onwards.
