New public parking charges for Aviemore and Fort Augustus (19/03/10)
Revised parking charges will be introduced at the public car parks in Aviemore and Fort Augustus this summer by The Highland Council.
The new charges are designed to encourage a greater turnover of spaces available during peak times 8am to 6pm in the summer months.
Parking will remain free for up to twenty minutes at spaces adjacent to public toilets in both locations.
During the hours of 8am to 6pm at:
- Aviemore, the current charge of 60p parking for 10 hours all year round will change to 60p for 4 hours and £1 for 10 hours all year; and
- at Fort Augustus the current charge of 60p for 10 hours from 1 May to 30 September will change to 60p for 4 hours and £1 for 10 hours from 1 June to 15 September.
The shorter period of May to September at Fort Augustus reflects the drop off in demand at that location when English schools go back after their holidays in September.
