Community Council showcase at Ward Forum (22/03/11)
The work of Community Councils in the Ward is being promoted at the next Tain and Easter Ross Ward Forum being held next Thursday (31 March).
Members of the public are invited to attend the Forum to find out more about the new Highland Community Council Scheme; the work of Community Councils across the Ward and the projects they are working on; and the aspirations and issues of their local communities.
The Tain and Easter Ross Ward Forum is being held in the Nigg Village Hall on Thursday 31 March from 7.30pm to 9.30pm with a 20-minute slot allocated at the end of the meeting for questions from the public. Teas and coffees, hosted by the Nigg and Shandwick Community Council, will be available from 7pm to 7.30pm.
Carol Elliot, Ward Manager, said Community Councils play a vital role in communities by representing the views of their community to The Highland Council and other agencies as well taking the lead on local projects.
“There is a lot of good work happening in the Ward by our local Community Councils so this Forum is a great opportunity to promote their work and share good practice,” she said.
Alice Smith, Chair of the Balintore and Hilton Community Council, is looking forward to sharing some of their successes with fellow community councillors and hearing about the work of neighbouring community councils.
“Over the past year or so our Community Council has been working hard on behalf of our community. We have gathered and put forward the opinions of the community on a variety of issues such as planning applications and bus services. We have negotiated improvements to part of the local sea defences; secured funding along with a neighbouring community council to improve pathways and beach access; run a very successful Gala and fundraised for and purchased Christmas lights. We continually consult our community through our monthly meeting, flyers, the occasional survey and our web site – www.seaboardvillages.org” She said.
“And there are lots of other exciting projects in the pipeline which will benefit our community too. I’m looking forward to sharing these and to learning from other Community Councils in the Ward,” she added.
Each of the seven Community Council in the Tain and Easter Ross Ward and other representative community organisations are members of the Ward Forum and have the opportunity to feed the views of their community into the subjects being discussed.
