Drugs Awareness - Portree High School (23/03/11)
Northern Constabulary visited Portree High School recently to educate pupils consequences of drug abuse and the action that police take in drug enforcement.
Police officers and a dog handler visited a number of classes during the day. In addition the officer and the dog spent time in the public areas of the school during break and lunch times. Demonstrations were given of the dog’s capabilities and many of the pupils questions were answered.
Northern Constabulary were glad to report that the exercise did not reveal any offences.
Inspector Duncan Maclean said: "Visits such as this are a regular occurrence around the Highlands and Islands. It must be stressed that this visit was not a reaction to a problem, but a pro-active educational measure, aimed at preserving our area’s relatively low crime rate."
