Meetings organised for communities welcoming the Olympic Torch (19/03/12)
The Olympic Torch Relay visits the Highland area from Saturday 9 June – Monday 11 June 2012. A highlight will be a celebratory concert to be held at the Northern Meeting Park, Inverness on Saturday 9th June, featuring artists arranged by the Olympic Games presenting partners – Coca Cola, Samsung and Bank of Scotland. Highland music and culture will be represented by the Inverness Festivals Band and Bruce Macgregor and friends.
As well as Inverness, the Torch Relay will pass through a number of communities in Lochaber and the the Great Glen on Saturday 9 June and in Badenoch on Monday 11 June and it will also make an appearance at John O’ Groats on the evening of Sunday 10 June.
To help communities prepare for the Relay visit, The Highland Council has arranged a series of local meetings to provide information and talk over suggestions to mark the event. All local groups and individuals with an interest in the Torch Relay are welcome to attend to share ideas and devise a programme for each community. The meetings, which all start at 7.30 pm, will take place as follows.
- Badenoch and Strathsepy – (Aviemore – Carrbridge – Grantown)
Monday 19 March- Cairngorm Hotel, Aviemore.
- The Great Glen (Fort Augustus – Invermoriston – Drumnadrochit)
Tuesday 20 March – Craigmonie Centre, Drumnadrochit
- Lochaber (Glencoe – Ballachulish – Fort William – Spean Bridge)
Tuesday 27 March – Council Chambers, Fort William
A date for a meeting in John O’ Groats will be set for early April 2012.
