Logo Guidelines

How to use the corporate identity of The Highland Council.

Introduction

These guidelines define the correct use of The Highland Council's logo and corporate identity. The instructions and guidance contained below apply to all staff and employees of the Council and also to external suppliers such as printers, signmakers; and recipients of grant aid from the Council etc.

The guidelines specify the way the logo should be used by the Council in a wide variety of situations, ranging from stationery and publications to signage and vehicle livery. It is most important that all concerned follow these guidelines to the letter and, if ever in doubt, seek guidance from the Public Relations Office of The Highland Council on the correct application for any situation.

In order to maintain the effectiveness of the corporate identity for The Highland Council a proof checking system has been established.  For further assistance please contact:

The Highland Council corporate identity.

The corporate identity for The Highland Council comprises a logo and a system for its consistent application. The corporate identity promotes the image of The Highland Council to the Highland community and helps people recognise the extent of Highland Council involvement in the provision of services. It is therefore essential that it is used consistently, correctly and appropriately. The logo must be applied to all printed and published materials and should also be used to brand and help promote projects, products and services. The following guidelines are to assist you in this.

The Highland Council logo is the corporate identity of The Highland Council and no other logo should be used to represent services or activities of the council without express permission of the Chief Executive. Services or sections of services should not create their own logos to represent their units/projects/teams etc.

Approved version of the logo.

As of Monday 10 November 2008, we are amending the Council logo to meet the requirements of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005, which demands equal respect for Gaelic and English.  The current logo does not meet this requirement. Currently, the Gaelic wording, Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd, is a 50% tone of the purple used in the English wording. The Gaelic wording will become green (100%).  We will also omit the words “Serving the Highlands”.

The rectangular version will be used in most instances, ie stationery, corporate documents and the web site. It will also be available in black and white.

The circular version will remain, but will be confined to being used on signage,  such as the headquarters’ signs; taxi plates and vehicle livery signage.

Please contact the Public Relations Office for guidance on the use of the circular version.
