Your Councillors
Your Councillors are elected to make decisions affecting the whole Highland area. There are 80 in total, serving on 14 four-member wards and 8 three-member wards. The next election is in May 2012.

The Convener is Independent Councillor Sandy Park, one of four members representing Nairn. Our photo shows Cllr Park (centre) with Cllr Jimmy Gray, Labour Leader (left) and Cllr Michael Foxley, Leader of the Council's Administration (right).
The political representation of the Council is: Independent Group (25), Liberal Democrats (21), SNP (18), Labour (6), Independent Members' Group (6) Independent Alliance Group (4). A key priority of the Administration is to create a greener and sustainable Council and increase the prosperity and wellbeing of people living and working in the Highlands
.
Working with Community Planning Partners and the Scottish Government, the Council has also produced a Single Outcome Agreement (PDF), which sets out a plan of action to deliver better public services in the Highlands. The outcomes cover the environment, enterprise, education, services for young and older people, health and community safety.
Appointed Councillors have been given signing duties for the counter signature of formal documents formerly undertaken by Justices of the Peace.
