Remit
Our 80 elected Members take decisions on a council budget of £565 million. The Highland Council deals with general policy matters, decides on its priorities, allocates resources between the functions and activities of the Council to reflect its priorities and oversees the work of the Committees.
The Council makes formally Byelaws, Regulations, Management Rules, Compulsory Purchase Orders and Schemes recommended by Area or Strategic Committees. The Council approves the annual Revenue and Capital budgets, and sets the Council Tax, HRA rent and other Housing charges. It is also responsible for the appointing and fixing the salary of senior management.
