Ward Forum

Date of Next Meeting:

Date and Time: Thursday 4th December 2008 at 7.30pm (doors open at 7.00pm)

Venue: Kinmylies Primary School

Theme: Review of Canal Bridge Opening Times

British Waterways and the Highland Council are reviewing the existing protocol (PDF 23 kB) for the opening of the Caledonian Canal Bridges at Muirtown and Tomnahurich in Inverness.  On 15 September the City of Inverness Committee accepted the process of consultation and review.

Both British Waterways and the Highland Council have agreed to consider changes to Bridge opening times for the benefit of all users, and have jointly commissioned Faber Maunsell, transport consulting engineers, to prepare a micro-simulation model of the road traffic and the boat traffic at the Inverness Bridges.

A Ward Forum on 25 September captured the views of the community.  The micro-simulation model is now being used to develop options for a future Protocol, taking into account the views expressed at the September Forum.

These options are to be presented to the Forum on 4th December.  The feedback from this Forum is to be reported to the City of Inverness Committee on 9 February, 2009.  The City Committee is to recommend the Council's preferred solution to the Transport, Environmental and Community Services Committee by 19 March, 2009.  This "TEC Services" Committee has delegated authority to formally approve the Council's position.

Assuming the Council position is accepted British Waterways will implement the new Protocol.  Time to implement depends on the exact nature of the changes agreed.

Please note that the Forum is open to all.  There are agenda items that are specific to the Inverness West Ward that will be taken later and there will be an opportunity to leave the meeting beforehand.

Ward Forums have been set up across the Highlands to help you have your say in what's happening in your area. The forums will meet regularly in public led by the Ward Members in your area, assisted by the Ward Manager. Representatives of Community Councils and partner agencies, such as the police and fire, also serve on the Forums.  The meetings will last for up to 2 hours, with a 20-minute slot allocated at the end of the meeting for questions from the public.
