Commercial Charging Policy

The Highland Council Archaeology Unit compiles and maintains the Highland Sites and Monuments Record (SMR) containing information on all recorded cultural heritage sites in the highland area.  We can provide information and advice upon request for inclusion in Environmental Assessments, planning applications, forestry schemes, agricultural grant applications and personal research.
If you wish information on a specific site or to consult the Highland SMR, you should contact archaeology@highland.gov.uk to make an appointment, or call us to discuss the matter. We can supply digital information, photocopies and GIS information as required.

A small charge may be made if you are a consultant, or if information /advice is required regarding the management of sites.  The cost is a charge for staff time, and any other expenses incurred in connection with the provision of curatorial advice. Charges will be applied at the discretion of the Archaeology Unit Manager.
Archaeological information may be supplied without charge to students and members of the public, provided that the requests are minor in nature.  Information will also be supplied without charge should the resulting research provide updated information for the SMR.
Payment should be made on receipt of an invoice from the Highland Council.
Prices are valid from 1st May 2005 and include VAT.
