Coastal Oil Pollution Plan
Local Authorities have no statutory obligation to deal with the effects of coastal oil spills but, have accepted responsibility for shoreline clean up and have powers to incur expenditure to respond to and alleviate the effects of such an event. In respect of this accepted responsibility, The Highland Council has a prepared and exercised plan which would be implemented if / when necessary.
The Highland Council Oil Pollution Contingency Plan is designed to conform with The National Contingency Plan for Marine Pollution from Shipping and Offshore Installations (NCP).
