Regulations
The Civil Protection in Peacetime Act 1986 led the way by providing regulations, legislations and guidelines concerning what might be termed "unpredictable" disasters. This was later superseded and supplemented in part by the civil Defence (General Local Authority Functions) (Scotland) Regulations 1993, Which further forced the requirement for civil emergency planning.
Regulations which apply to risks or hazards which are more predictable, such as the threat posed by certain industrial installations, cover more specific circumstances e.g:
- Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulation 2001
- Civil Contingencies Act 2005
- Contingency Planning (Scotland) Regulations 2005
- Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 1999
- Nuclear Installations Act 1965
- Environmental Protection Act 1996
- The Pipeline Safety Regulations 1996
- Planning (Hazardous Substances) (Scotland) Act 1997
- Offshore Petroleum Production and Pipelines (Assessment of Environmental effects) Regulations 1999
