Building Standards

Building Standards is the process of checking work to ensure it is designed and constructed in accordance with minimum standards laid down by Scottish Government in the form of The Building (Scotland) Regulations.  Almost all new building work from house extensions to a new rooflight needs a Building Warrant and a Completion Certificate to ensure that it is safe to use and fit for its purpose. 

The main purpose of the Regulations is to safeguard the health and safety of people in or about buildings.  They are also concerned with energy conservation and to further the acheivement of sustainable development.

Our online service means that you can view and track building warrant applications.  You can find out about any new applications in your area by using the advanced search.  It is also our commitment to develop an e-building standards portal and work on this is continuing.
