Open Space in New Residential Developments: Supplementary Guidance

The Highland Council have been working with Kit Campbell Associates to produce Supplementary Guidance on Open Space in New Residential Developments.  The document will be used to provide guidance on both the design and provision of greenspace, sport and recreation facilities throughout the Highlands.

A public consultation was carried out early 2009 and following the integration of the feedback receved during the consultation the document was adopted as interim Supplmentary Guidance to be used as a a material planning consideration in the determination of planning applications by The Highland Council Planning, Environment and Development Committee on 20th May 2009.

You can download each of the sections of the guidance below however, it is reccomended that you read the guidance as a whole rather than in part. A summary paper of the full guidance is provided for convenience.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

As with all Plans, Policies and Strategies the Council produces, the supplementary guidance has been subject to a Strategic Environmental Assessment to assess the level of significance of any environmental impacts.  The Documents which make up the Strategic Environmental Assessment can be downloaded below:

Highland Greenspace Audit 2010

To support the implementation of the Open Space in New Residential Development: Interim Supplementary Guidance the Council have produced a Highland Greenspace Audit. You can down load the draft version of this below and the adopted version will be made available once it has been scrutinised by the Planning, Environment and Development Committee in August 2011.  For ease, the document has been divided into the separate settlements.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

As with all Plans, Policies and Strategies the Council produces, the supplementary guidance has been subject to a Strategic Environmental Assessment to assess the level of significance of any environmental impacts.  Given the type of document the Highland Greenspace Audit is the document was subject to “Pre-Screening” only.
