Nairn Town Centre - Development Brief

Highland Council has approved a Development Brief for Nairn Town Centre. In particular, the Development Brief targets that part of the town centre bordered by the library car park, King Street, High Street and Leopold Street. It has been prepared to promote regeneration of the area.

Public Consultation

Following a Special Ward Forum on 6 October 2010, the Council agreed to extend the period for public consultation on the Development Brief to 1 February 2011 (18 weeks in total).  The Council also agreed to hold a workshop to help articulate and to record local opinions on the most appropriate layout, design and uses of the area. The workshop took place on 22 November 2010 and the results are available to view below.

suggested amended layout was discussed at the 26 January Ward Forum.  The outcome of the consultation was reported to the 16 March 2011 Planning, Environment and Development Committee, which approved the finalised Brief.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

In accordance with the Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005, a Screening Report was undertaken to assess whether the draft brief would require a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). This determined that, as the draft brief is not likely to have significant environmental effects, an SEA will not be required. The determination notice can be viewed here:
