Map Extract Scheme

This is a scheme run by the Planning and Development Service in conjunction with Blackwell's bookshop in Aberdeen. The scheme enables the Council to act as an agent of the Ordnance Survey – the national mapping organisation of Great Britain. Map extracts in paper or TIFF format can now be supplied for any purpose - not just for planning applications.

When you submit a Planning or Building Warrant Application, you are required to attach four location plans showing where the development is taking place in relation to surrounding roads and other buildings. The large-scale Ordnance Survey (OS) mapping is the most effective base map to use as it is easily recognised by Planning staff and can be checked against the OS maps held in Area offices.

Maps are usually provided at scales of 1:2500 or 1:1250 depending on the location. You are free to make as many copies you need of the map supplied to you

To obtain map extracts, simply contact your Area Planning Office, or Planning HQ on 01463 702 273. You can email your request to the GIS Team if you prefer by entering your details in our request form.

There is a charge for this service as detailed below. For paper maps:

Prices for TIFF format maps are simpler - £35.25 for all A4 images, except for 1:2500 urban areas which are £76.38 for an A4 image. Prices for A3 can be obtained if required.

The pricing for 1:10,000 scale mapping is slightly different. An A4 paper map would cost a total of £23.83 in either urban or rural areas.
