Coast Protection

Under the Coast Protection Act 1949, Highland Council is the Coast Protection Authority for its own local goverment area.

  • The Council is given duties and powers by the Act.
  • The Council may carry out Coast Protection works which may be new or maintenance works.
  • The Council must consider proposals for Coast Protection works or for other works on the coast, to be carried out by others.
