The Highland Council has a long standing commitment in the Council’s Local Plan to improve the road network in and around Inverness.
The Southern Distributor Road (SDR) has been in the Council’s Local Plan for many years.
The Council has never had any funds to complete the SDR and links back into the strategic road network.
The Inverness Trunk Link Road (ITLR) project is the central plank of the transport master plan for Inverness and can be justified by current congestion and growth projections resulting from future development and expansion of the City.
18 months ago the Council appointed Scott Wilson to undertake the detailed design. The project has been subjected to a Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) assessment by Scott Wilson on behalf of the Council in accordance with Scottish Government guidelines. The Council approved the submission of the ITLR to the Scottish Government’s Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR) on 27 September 2007. The STPR is due to report in August 2008 and identify transport improvement funding for 2012 - 2022.
