Under the Coast Protection Act 1949, Highland Council is the Coast Protection Authority for its own local goverment area.
- The Council must, therefore, perform duties and implement powers laid down by the Act.
- The Council may carry out Coast Protection works which may be new or maintenance works.
- The Council must consider proposals for Coast Protection works or for other works on the coast, to be carried out by others.
