Partnership Approach to Climate Change in Highland

Signatories 2009

To date, twenty one Highland organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors have signed up to the Highland Climate Change Declaration committing to:

  • Measure their Carbon Footprint and work to reduce emissions from operations by 3% per annum;
  • Provide an annual update of progress towards emission reductions;
  • Share information and work with partners in Highland to promote good practice on climate change;
  • Encourage and work with others in business and communities to take action to adapt to the impact of climate change to reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions and to make the public committed to action.

In agreeing action, signatories recognise the need to promote sustainable development and the well-being of local communities.  The group also acknowledge that Climate Change may bring opportunities for the Highlands in terms of renewable energy generation but will have an impact on our weather, economy and environment.

A copy of the declaration and the first annual report of progress can be found in the "Current Documents" Section to the right.

The declaration will be promoted to more organisations with the aim of collecting 30 new signatories by April 2012. For more information on how you can sign-up please contact: greencouncil@highland.gov.uk
