The Corporate Improvement Programme is a major council-wide initiative of nine projects focused on improving customer satisfaction, efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction. Two projects have particular association with Travel Planning:
Transport Project
The main aim of this project is to reduce the Corporate Carbon Footprint and delivery of sustainable efficiencies through a Corporate Travel and Transport Strategy. The project includes a wide range of activity including:
- Reducing the cost of business travel by controlling activity through a central booking resource, increasing the use of technology and implementing a business travel hierarchy;
- Reducing carbon emissions through reducing fuel consumption in Council owned vehicles;
- Reducing the cost of using private taxis in Social Work;
- Reducing the cost of operating Council owned mini buses through improved utilisation and integration of services;
- Reducing the cost of contracted school transport through improved integration with public transport;
- Reducing the cost of operational transport through increased utilisation, efficient routing, and options for double shifts.
Mobile & Flexible Working Project
The vision for the Mobile and Flexible Working Project is to work in a smarter, leaner and more sustainable way by:
- Supporting work/life balance through flexible working
- Spending less time travelling
- Reducing asset costs, travel costs and carbon emissions
- Improving individual employability
- Designing work places and practices that fit our business
- Using technology to connect and communicate across Highland
- Increasing staff productivity and job satisfaction
- Delivering higher quality services locally to customers
