Travel Hierarchy

The Highland Council is committed to encouraging staff and the wider public to consider sustainable travel. A travel hierarchy document has been developed which helps individuals consider whether they need to travel and if so by what means.

The Single Outcome Agreement states that the Highland Council will prepare a Green Travel Plan and work with the Scottish Government to encourage and promote green travel plans for our public sector partners, businesses and developments across the Highlands.

Change Your World Campaign 2010

Well done to all staff who entered into the spirit of Change your World week last year by walking, cycling, car-sharing and using public transport to get to work.

Ailsa Villegas, Sustainable Development Officer and Louise Jones, Health Promoting Schools Manager cycled 35 miles from Aviemore to Inverness on the Monday morning. Louise said “ I saved £12 in petrol cycling to work but have to admit I’ve spent £12 in chocolate re-fuelling my body!” Councillor Iain Ross also cycled in to Inverness from Tore one morning and throughly enjoyed the exercise.
