Refuse and recycling collections during adverse weather conditions

At this time of year Highland can experience some very challenging winter conditions, these conditions can cause disruptions to waste and recycling collections especially in remote areas. Other major difficulties may occur on roads that have considerable inclines and cul-de-sacs with restricted access.

Every effort will be made by Highland Council to collect bins and boxes on the scheduled collection day; however it is foreseeable that during periods of adverse winter weather, a disruption to normal collection services may occur.

If you have not had your refuse bin or blue box collected on the normal day please leave it out for collection, as every effort will be made to collect them as soon as possible. Furthermore please keep bins free from a build up of snow on or around the bin to enable easier access for collection crews.

If a brown bin is not collected on the normal collection day it should be removed from the kerbside and presented for uplift on the next scheduled collection day. In addition, due to the distances involved, it may not always be practicable to re-schedule a missed blue bin collection. In this case, please take recyclables to the nearest Recycling Point or Centre; or where practicable store them and add them to the bin at a later date.

The Highland Council now recycles over a third of the waste collected thanks to the efforts of residents. However there is still a lot more we can all do to help look after our environment and reduce the cost of waste disposal. Every little bit helps.
