Recycling Centres

Garden wasteA 'Recycling Centre' is a staffed facility with either full time or part time opening hours.

The aim of the Centre is to recycle as much of the material that is brought in as possible. To help achieve this you will be met by a trained operative who will assist in making sure the materials you bring for recycling are dropped of at the right collection points.   

To assist in the smooth operation of the Centres we ask that you come with your materials pre-sorted or you are prepared to spend a little time sorting at the site.  Our target is to achieve between 60-65% recycling at each Centre.

Restrictions for using the sites

When skip movement operations are taking place our sites attendants will close the gates for a short period of time. This is to ensure that all movements are carried out in a controlled and safe manner for your protection. Please see link to the latest HSE bulletin which highlights a number fatal accidents during skip handling operations.

Please bear in mind that sites are for the use of all householders. Allowing unrestricted large loads of household waste can lead to skips filling too rapidly, therefore reducing availability of disposal space and causing operational problems with skip emptying. Therefore vehicle size is restricted to 3.5 tonnes. Tipper trucks are allowed access to the site, but please note that they are not permitted to tip.

Recycling Centres are for household waste only. Commercial refuse cannot be taken to a Recycling Centre, and recycling is permitted only with an appropriate Waste Transfer Note (see Business Waste and Recycling Service for more information).
