Skye and Lochalsh

The New Recycling and Refuse Collection Service was first introduced as a 6 month pilot in Skye and Lochalsh on the 6th of September 2010. Following the success of this pilot where landfilled waste was reduced and the amount of recycling increased, the TECS Committee agreed to continue with the service in area.

During the first three months of the trial, the quantity of material recycled increased by 17% compared to the same period in the previous year; this amounts to over 77 tonnes of material which would otherwise have been sent to landfill. There was also a 9% reduction in the total waste arising in the same period.

All residents in Skye and Lochalsh are on a weekly bin collection where the blue recycling bin is collected one week and the refuse bin is collected the following week. Click on New Recycling and Refuse guide for more information.
