Refuse Collection

Normal service days are Monday - Friday inclusive.

Businesses requesting the Council’s service will be provided with all necessary paperwork to ensure, wherever possible:-

  •  A flexible and seasonally responsive service
  •  Exceptional circumstances are dealt with 
  •  Plus compliance with "Duty of Care" 

Owner’s and certain staff accommodation, which is listed in the Council Tax Register, will be provided with a free household collection service subject to limit (normally one, 240 litre, wheeled bin uplift per week or equivalent allowance).

A range of wheeled bins is available for purchase at low prices which reflect the Council’s substantial bulk purchase capability.

Charges

From 1 April 2008 the following, per uplift, charges are applicable to the collection Service. These seek to recover collection/disposal/landfill tax costs. There is a 3% increase from the previous year.

Certain container sizes may be unavailable in some Areas. VAT is not included in above charges.

*The E.P. Act defines "Household Waste for which a charge can be made" as including that from the undernoted premises:-

  • Residential Hostels and Homes
  • Waste from self-catering holiday businesses (e.g.   Chalets, caravans, campsites)
  • Waste from Charity occupied premises wholly or mainly used for charitable purposes.  

The disposal charge element cannot be applied to waste from these premises.

A discount system on (collection/disposal charges, not landfill tax) operates for 1100 litre containers. In any week:-

  • First 4 uplifts - standard charge 
  • After this, 5 or more - 30% discount 
     
    Payment

    Ask your Area Office about ways to pay:-
  •  Invoice for whole or half year 
  •  By standing order
  •  By direct debit 
  •  Internal recharge (Council premises only)
     

Permits

Once your request has been processed, payment made (or arrangements in place) and "Duty of Care" waste transfer note completed you will be sent, to ensure service from 1st April:-

  •  self-adhesive permits for your bins 
  •  transfer note copy, signed by Council.  

A service cannot be provided without the above permits and transfer note.
