08.10.20 - Deputy First Minister's SQA announcement on 7 October

We very much welcome the announcement, made on Wednesday 7 October by Deputy First Minister John Swinney, that the National 5 external examination diet has been cancelled and that Higher and Advanced Higher examinations have been moved back.  National 5 course awards will now be based on teacher judgements based on assessment evidence.  These changes reflect the fact that teaching time has been lost, as do the changes to courses at all levels announced by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

11.08.20 update - Highland school’s return

We are looking forward to welcoming our pupils back to school this week! As per Scottish Government guidance, schools were given the choice to do a full or phased return of their pupils from tomorrow onwards. It is the Council, and the Government’s expectation, that every pupil will be back in class from the 18 August.

By now you will have now received confirmation of your child’s return date and starting arrangements, but if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school directly.

Do make sure to check your school’s website and their own social media for information and updates.

You can also visit our school closures page to check the status of your school.

School lets update

All Highland Council school lets will remain suspended to assist in the Government’s goal in suppressing the Coronavirus. We will review this position in October and will reopen the lets booking process, in line with national Covid-19 guidance, when it is deemed safe to do so.

31.07.20 - Education update

We are delighted to be able to welcome children and young people back into Highland schools from Wednesday 12th  August, following the guidance received from the Scottish Government.

Some of our schools will be bringing back pupils in a phased return by Tuesday 18th August, as agreed nationally. You will receive information from your Headteacher informing you of your child’s return date between the 12 and 18 of August. This is to ensure that all children and young people have the right support to ensure a safe return.

We understand that some of you may be feeling anxious about schools reopening, but please feel reassured that this is very normal. Your child will be welcomed back to a warm, supportive and safe environment.
